Artistic Director
Günther Grosser is a director and writer. Born in Lauffen am Neckar in 1955, he studied philosophy and literature in Tübingen. After co-founding the English-language theater company Out to Lunch in 1989, he became Artistic Director of English Theatre Berlin in 1993.
Directing work for ETB | IPAC includes the three-part series “Conversations with a Cultural Icon” about the question how Pop became Culture with Pop! Andy Warhol & The Velvet Underground, Bowie in Berlin, and Jaws – Der weiße Hai, as well as Orpheus Descending (Tennessee Williams), Sexual Perversity in Chicago (David Mamet), The Caretaker (Harold Pinter), Talking Heads (Alan Bennett), Lady Lay (Lydia Stryk), NippleJesus (Nick Hornby), Dead Fred (Günther Grosser & Priscilla Be), Cool Aid (Günther Grosser), The Age of Consent (Peter Morris); for Theater Thikwa: Max und Moritz / Wilhelm Busch.
From 2010 to 2018, Grosser ran the Science&Theatre program at ETB|IPAC together with microbiologist Dr. Regine Hengge. He directed six productions for it, including A Number (Caryl Churchill), An Experiment with an Air Pump (Shelag Stephenson), Photograph 51 (Anna Ziegler), Isaac´s Eye (Lucas Hnath), Transcendence (Robert Marc Friedman) and Ein/Verständnis (Deborah Zoe Laufer).
His productions received invitations to festivals in Cork, Munich, Mainz, Potsdam, Kaiserslautern and Stralsund.
Grosser has written numerous plays and regularly contributes to newspapers and blogs.
