The project was part of SCIENCE & THEATRE 2012 and consisted of performances - February 6 - 8 2012 - and an exhibition exploring synthetic biology. All about it HERE.

ME, MYSELF & YOU IN CYBERSPACE

A theatrical performance about our communication, identity and life in cyberspace

Who am I on Facebook, Schüler-VZ , Twitter & Co?

The play deals with questions like: Am I still me in cyberspace? Are my friends my real friends? What happens to our communication, our identity, our time in virtual reality?

What are the differences between my life in cyberspace and in my own reality? How does cyber-communication influence my life, my time, my friendships, my relationships?

Is it a new FREEDOM or is it a threat?

Never alone anymore? Never bored anymore? Always connected? What about stalking, controlling other people or have you been stalked/controlled/followed by someone you know or don’t know?

What happens if you are mad at someone? What happens if that gets slightly out of hand? One wallpost might be the beginning of something incontrollable… oops – and before you know it: you are cyberbullying someone.

A play about the glories (spreading and sharing good news, connecting across the planet, staying in touch) and the dangers of it (like cyberbullying, loss of identity, addiction)

WHEN THE WALL CAME DOWN

PERFORMANCE PLUS EXHIBITION

The WALL project allows ETB to work closely with a school in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg to tackle the fall of the Berlin Wall. The piece will connect personal / family experience directly linked to the Wall and the political education the students receive.

It has been 20 years since the Wall fell, and most of today's teens were not born yet, or mere toddlers. This allows them to take for granted the unified Berlin within which they live. The facts surrounding this important event have been passed down to them through stories, books, documentaries - if they have been interested enough in the subject to do any research of their own up to now - and of course the classroom. This limits their perspective.

It cuts them off from finding a personal connection to something that has influenced, if not shaped, the Berlin families of the past two generations.

At the theatre´s foyer the project will present an exhibition plus video material on the history of the Berlin Wall as viewed by today´s teenagers, voices of participants and artists as well as a variety of photos and interviews taken by the students.

Participating school is the LEIBNIZ-OBERSCHULEin Kreuzberg.

dt.: Ein Projekt in Zusammenarbeit mit zwei Schulen aus Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg zum Thema "Fall der Berliner Mauer 

Kernstück des Projektes ist die Verknüpfung von privater Familiengeschichte - eigenen Erfahrungen in der Familie - und politischer Bildung.  Der  Mauerfall vor 20 Jahren ist für die Teenager unserer Tage ein Ereignis, das bereits vor ihrer Geburt oder kurz danach stattfand. Für die

Jugendlichen ist es also Alltag, ein vereintes Berlin zu erleben. Die Situation zur Zeit des Mauerfalls kennen sie nur aus Erzählungen, aus Büchern und Dokumentationen - falls sie sich bislang überhaupt dafür interessiert haben - und aus dem Schulunterricht. So gesehen haben auch die heutigen jungen Menschen einen Blick von außen, da sie ja nicht mehr persönliche Zeugen der Mauer und ihrer Geschichte sind. Dennoch hat die Mauer und auch ihr Fall sicherlich in jeder (zumindest Berliner) Familie der letzten zwei Generationen eine Rolle gespielt.

Teilnehmende Schulen sind die LEIBNIZ-OBERSCHULE in Kreuzberg und die ANDREAS-OBERSCHULE in Friedrichshain.

Projektleiterinnen von seiten des Theaters sind INKA-CHARLOTTE PALM und SABRINA ELLENBERGER.

Twenty years ago in November, the wall dividing Berlin fell. The impact of this was felt throughout the world, as people everywhere were touched by Berlin's story.  For this reason, on the 20 year anniversary, Berlin is filled with exhibitions, events and projects dedicated to retelling and reliving this moment in German history. And our project is part of this.  We will retell personal stories from the perspective of family and friends who experienced the fall of the Wall first hand.  You were not yet born when this happened and know Berlin as a unified entity, but surely you have heard stories from your family and friends who in Berlin at that time and the effect this had on them personally. Most Berliners were there and still have exact memories of that time and what it meant to theWe challenge you to begin researching your family and friends for these stories- no matter if these stories are funny or sad, full of hope, or rather absurd. Ask your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends and neighbors what they experienced as the Berlin Wall came down.

 
Example questions:

 
What were the direct effects the separation of Berlin and it's later reunification on my family members? What funny, sad, beautiful or absurd stories are direct results due to this.  How was the make-up of your family effected by the wall? What events took place in your family immediately preceding and following the opening of Berlin's check points?  How were these events effected?
 
What we will do with the gathered stories:
 
-An exhibition will be held in the Foyer of the English Theater Berlin, and possibly in your schools. The exhibition's concept and content will be decided and created by you. Example, photos, audio pieces, written work, visuals (old or new videos), art...
 
- Based on your stories, a theater piece will be created and performed in English at the English Theatre Berlin and the Leibniz-Schule.
 
Im November vor genau 20 Jahren fiel die Berliner Mauer. Ein Ereignis, das die ganze Welt bewegte. Deshalb ist ganz Berlin dieses Jahr voller Ausstellungen und Projekte und Aktionen, die dieses Ereignis dokumentieren und beleuchten. Wir möchten das auch tun, und zwar aus einer sehr persönlichen und einmaligen Perspektive: der deiner Familie und/oder Bekannten. Du selber warst noch gar nicht auf der Welt als die Mauer noch stand und kennst die Stadt nur ungeteilt. Aber sicher hast du schon Geschichten gehört von deinen Eltern oder Grosseltern, von Bekannten oder Verwandten, wie es damals war, als die Mauer noch stand. Oder wie es war, als die Mauer fiel. Die meisten, die dieses Ereignis von nah oder fern miterlebt haben, wissen noch genau, was sie getan haben, als sie davon hörten – viele Berliner waren selbst dabei.
 

Bestimmt gibt es in deiner Familie Erinnerungen daran.


 

Seien sie lustig oder tragisch, traurig, voller Hoffnung oder absurd – an der Mauer vorbei kam man sicher nicht, wenn man in Berlin lebte. Deshalb fordern wir euch auf, Euch auf die Suche zu machen nach Geschichten: von den Eltern, Großeltern, Onkeln, Tanten und Bekannten selbst erlebt oder immer wieder erzählt bekommen von noch älteren Familienmitgliedern, die vielleicht sogar heute nicht mehr leben.

Fragen wie z.B.:

Welche Auswirkungen hatte die Teilung und anschließende Wiedervereinigung auf Mitglieder meiner Familie? Welche komischen, tragischen, schönen, absurden Geschichten ranken sich um dieses Ereignis? Welche familiären Konstellationen wären ohne den Mauerfall vielleicht gar nicht zustande gekommen? Was für Erlebnisse gab es in der Familie kurz vor oder nach Maueröffnung auf beiden Seiten der Stadt? Welche Auswirkungen halten bis heute an?

Was wir vorhaben mit den gefundenen Geschichten:

- Eine Ausstellung im Foyer des English Theatre Berlin  sowie evtl. in Euren Schulen. Das Konzept der Ausstellung und was sie enthält wird von Euch selber erarbeitet und kann enthalten: Photos, Hörstücke, geschriebenes, Altes, Neues, evtl. Video (falls das technische Equipment vorhanden ist), Kunst…

- Ein Theaterstück aus den gefundenen Geschichten in englischer Sprache mit zwei Aufführungen im ENGLISH THEATRE BERLIN am 16. und am 17. November 2009 sowie eine Aufführung an der Leibniz-Schule.
