The Irish Times Best New Play 2010

Everyone dreams of something in their life. B wants a real hairdressers’ scissors and a wife. D wants a Winter Wonderland snow globe and ‘a big head of dirty auld curls’. Mrs C, she wants a baby and will do anything to have one. And if they can all help each other to be happy, what’s the harm in that?

Carmel Winters studied Drama & English at Trinity College Dublin where she was awarded several prizes for outstanding academic achievement.  Her debut film Snap (2010) was awarded Best Irish Film and Best Irish Director by the Dublin Film Critics Circle at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2011.

Carmel recently completed a writer’s residency at the National Theatre, London and is currently resident writer at the Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris.  Her new play Best Man will premiere at the Everyman, Cork Midsummer Festival this coming June before transferring to Project Arts, Dublin. She is currently preparing to direct her next feature film and working on a new commission for the Abbey Theatre, Dublin.
