Theatre in Danger!

Dear friends of English Theatre Berlin

What else can we say?
THANK YOU so much to each and every one of you for your support. Over 5,000 of you have signed
our online and print petitions - we'll deliver them to the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit later this month.
In addition to all of your public support, there have been promising signs from behind the scenes -
and we are very excited for the future of English Theatre Berlin; we're not planning on going anywhere!
Our deepest thanks,
Günther, Bernd, Daniel and the ETB Team

The venue’s funding will be entirely cut after 2013.

The future of English Theatre Berlin (ETB) is at stake - a jury of the Berlin Senate responsible for funding small independent theatres has recently decided that it will no longer fund ETB beyond the year 2013. The theatre is now at risk due to a decision made by a funding committee motivated by its focus on new theatre forms and innovation rather than on the continuity and quality of an institution. This cannot and does not mean, however, that the institution English Theatre Berlin will disappear without a trace. Time is already running out, though, and a decision must be made by the beginning of 2013 for 2014; otherwise any further planning will be at risk, if not completely impossible.

ETB will intensively pursue additional funding. Regardless, this is a difficult situation for a theatre that has just started its planning for the 2013/2014 season, especially with regard to international guest performances!

Now it´s the Berlin Senat´s and the politicians´ turns to save and further on fund a cultural institution that has enriched Berlin´s cultural scene enormously over the last 23 years.

We need your help with this - it will be most helpful if you, our audience, express your solidarity with ETB by both signing and sharing our online petition and mailing letters or e-mails to the Senate asking for further funding of ETB after 2013. Ideal would be a personal letter to the address below but feel free to also print out and sign (or attach to an e-mail) the MODEL LETTER you´ll find HERE.

Post your letters to:
