The Fall of the Berlin Wall and Berlin’s transformation from divided city to the creative capital of Europe has resulted in a performing arts community whose internationalism is unmatched the world over and whose work features a dizzying mix of theatrical forms and traditions that could only be created here in the Hauptstadt. Today, the world of theater, performance and live art looks spellbound to Berlin, international festivals compete to book productions from Berlin while international theater and performance makers continue to relocate to the German capital in droves.
As a proud member of Berlin’s freie Szene (international performing arts community), ETB | IPAC also functions as a presenter and co-producer of artists and performance collectives we believe in who create new work using English as a working language. Our annual Expo: A Showcase of Wahlberliner*innen festival is dedicated to this community and work first presented there is often invited back for an extended run.

Der Fall der Mauer und die Transformation Berlins von einer geteilten Stadt zur Kreativmetropole Europas brachte den Anstieg einer Theaterszene mit sich, deren breitgefächerte internationale Palette weltweit ihresgleichen sucht, ganz zu schweigen von der enormen Bandbreite performativer Formate, wie sie derzeit nur die neue deutsche Hauptstadt hervorbringt. Die Theaterwelt blickt gebannt nach Berlin, jedes internationale Festival reißt sich um Shows aus Berlin – und viele internatioanle Theatermacher zieht es in die Stadt.
Als Mitglied der Freien Szene Berlins versteht sich das ETB | IPAC auch als Ansprechpartner, Spielort und Co-Produzent für Künstler und Kollektive aus dieser internationalen Szene, für Theatermacher, an die wir glauben und die ihre Arbeiten in Englisch entwickeln und spielen. Das alljährliche Festival Expat Expo: A Showcase of Wahlberliner speist sich ganz aus dieser neuen internationalen Community; Arbeiten, die im Rahmen der Expat Expo an nur einem Abend präsentiert werden, kann sich im Anschluss die Chance auf einen Platz im Spielplan des ETB | IPAC bieten.
